For Water Conservation Month a California water agency wanted to take the opportunity to engage with their community, in particular the youth of the community, as well as raise awareness of the importance of water conservation. They also wanted to provide some sort of custom promotional giveaway to the 250 educators in their county.
The agency decided on a two-part marketing campaign. In order to engage the youth of their community, the agency hosted a children's drawing contest, in which children under 10 were invited to submit a drawing on the theme "save water". The agency contacted local educators and community groups who then devoted some time to lessons on water conservation. Afterwards the children created drawings based on what they had learned. The agency received over 100 submissions from children in the area.
Implementation:
From the submissions, the agency selected three winners and three honorable mentions. Working with IASpromotes.com, the six drawings were applied to a non-woven polypropylene zippered tote bag through a full color heat transfer process. This allowed for all the colors and small details of the drawings to be transferred to the bag. Non-woven polypropylene is also an eco-friendly material, which was very important to the agency.
For promotional purposes, the company also included their name, logo, and their chosen slogan for the month, "Be a water hero – conserve water!"
